For all the moms

Sorry it's a little wide!

I'm glad they include the lyrics as subtitles.

[I re-sized it. ;) dc]

Mom's little girl, Precious, is saying Hello, Ligonier!

Northern tissue girls

You might have noticed that my current profile pic is a little Northern tissue girl.  These prints used to hang in our rooms.  We used to pretend they were my sisters and me.  I was the winter girl.  My sister Claire was the blonde and the brown haired girl with the kitten was my sister Kathy.  It's just a bit of nostalgia.  One of the neat things about surfing the web is that you just never know what treasures you may find.

I am giving a thumbs up for The Odd Couple!

Hubby and I just got back from the theater.  Opening night had a smaller crowd than usual, perhaps because of the weather, who knows.  I watched everyone around me and they were all laughing and having a good time.  I wasn't sure what to expect.  Sometimes I go to a comedy and have a few laughs and think, well that was a good show, but I laughed alot tonight and so did everyone else!  The show was over before I knew it and it left me wanting more, so I say brave the weather and go have a good mid-winter chuckle fest.

The entire cast was good but I have to say Anne Crusan as the lead, Olive, was just great.  Seeing her performance alone is worth the ticket.

I enjoyed, as usual, watching Marianne's face during the performance.  Her role was a small one but she has such stage presence and a really expressive character face that I so enjoy.

Susan Sherry came in second in the laugh zone for me.  I thought she was pretty darn funny.

So, bravo!

Potato sack skirt from 1936...

An old photo and old memories from the depression days of the 1930's. I don't remember seeing a skirt from a potato sack but I do remember burlap sack material that was made into clothing. I also recall that flour sold in 100 lb cloth bags with floral print that ladies made into aprons, blouses and wearing apparel. Everything that could be recycled, was. It was a case of need and now in our wasteful society it is for the environment. Times change.

wanna learn how to tap dance?

Jim Mikula's giving lessons for adults at the YMCA.  Registeration will be held on February 12th from 6pm to 7pm.  The 5-week session begins February 19 from 6pm to 7pm.  Fee is $15 for members and $30 for non-members.

I tried tap as a kid.  I had to face it, I'm a one foot tapper and there no cure for that!

peace

Wow, I sat down a few moments ago intending to post this PEACE message on a card handed to me by Billie Ann Miranda. I got side tracked deciding to scan yet another file and the file I picked up was PEACB108 which made me pause to think how much it sounded like PEACE, then I realized that Pandora had just started playing PEACE TRAIN.

OK, so I'll take that as my hint that someone needs this message so here it is.......

THE PEACE MOON

Whenever you first notice the moon in the sky, pause and think of world peace. Use the moon as a reminder for a mini-meditation. As the word spreads and more people practice this technique, we could change our collective consciousness toward a peace-loving world. It won't hurt. It may help and it is free!!

Myron's Song/poem

‘Twas the Night Before the Super Bowl

‘Twas the night before the Super Bowl, when along the gulf shore,

Steelers fans were praying for “just one more;”

The players were nestled all snug in the sack,

With visions of the first NFL Six-Pack;

Coach Tomlin was young, but wise for his years,

So I drifted off to sleep without any fears;

When at the stadium there arose some strange chatter,

The Cardinals feared, what was the matter;

We heard “Okel Dokel”, we heard “Double Yoi,”

We jumped from our beds, our hearts j umped for joy;

He stood at the fifty with a grin ear to ear,

Steelers fans everywhere started to cheer;

Then in an instant to our surprise,

This little old man had tears in his eyes;

He went to the booth and there took his chair,

While Terrible Towels waved in the air;

Then over the airwaves came his shrill voice,

The Steelers Nation began to rejoice;

He said, “I am back, but you know I can’t stay,

I just had to see my Steelers play;

From my home up above, I have a great view,

But I wanted to celebrate here with you;

So bring on the Birds, we’ll send them a flyin’,

On the way back to Phoenix, they will be cryin’;

Ben, Hines, Troy, Jeff and all of the rest,

No matter the outcome, to me you’re the best;”

The airwaves went silent, the stadium still,

Was this just a dream, it seemed so real;

In our team we have faith, in our team we have hope,

But the game’s not the same without Myron Cope;

"Ode to Ligonier"

Diane, you are a genius!!! Here is the "Ode",

It’s winter in Ligonier, Pennsylvania
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At twenty-five below.

Oh, how I love Ligonier, Pennsylvania
When the snow’s up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I’ll stick around
I could never leave Ligonier, Pennsylvania
“Cause I’m frozen to the ground.”

just for chuckles

A man is looking for his seat at the stadium in tampa for the Steelers Cardinal Super Bowl. He spots an empty seat on the 50 yard line, and an older gentleman is sitting, alone next to it. The man asks the old man if the seat is taken; the older man replies that he holds the ticket to that seat, and that he and his wife have never missed a steeler playoff game or super bowl, all thru the 70's they went to every superbowl together. the younger man asked where his wife was for this game, and the older one replied that she had passed on. The younger man says "well, im very sorry to hear that, but couldn't you get someone in your family to come watch the game with you?, one of your children, a sibling, cousin, anyone?" And the older man replies "no, they are all at the funeral."

note from Connections Store

We had great time at Steelers pep rally on diamond this morning. Nick carried the Steelers flag for us.
How will we see pictures from the web cam?
Thanks Nancy

Nancy: I loved the Steeler flag!
We're still hoping one of our bloggers was there and able to get the shot. People were definitely watching. Our office was tuned in and loving it, but you really have to grab those shots as they come up. Fingers crossed!

Steeler tunes on Ligonier Radio!!!!

Hi Diane,

Just wanted to let you know I've ramped up the Steeler songs on the Valley from 1 an hour to 3 an hour.

Just added a really cool one called "Steeler Ladies." Kind of a 60's girl-group sound.

Go Steeeelers.

I need some good chuckles and laughs so....wearing black and gold

hubby and I will be taking in The Odd Couple this evening at the Ligonier Theater and we hope to see you there!

For Terrible Towels, a Wonderful Legacy

Worth taking the time to read - and then go buy another towel.

For Terrible Towels, a Wonderful Legacy
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/30/sports/football/30towel.html?th&emc=th
"Myron Cope left behind something far more personal than a legacy of
terrycloth, a battle flag for a city and its team. In 1996, he handed over the
trademark to the Terrible Towel to the Allegheny
Valley School
. It is a network of campuses and group homes across
Pennsylvania for people with severe intellectual and developmental disabilities.
It receives almost all the profits from sales of the towels."

Did I pay for my biscotti?

I walked into the office this morning and suddenly realized that I might have walked out of Abigails without paying! If you're there right now and you see this post, let em know I'll be back at lunch to square things up. If I DID pay and am being brainless right now, they'll let me know.

Honestly, I had a freebie coming with my card but I wanted one of their delicious chocolate biscotti. I remember putting a buck in the tip jar but I can't remember paying for biscotti. YOI!

This isn't the first time I've been brainless and operating on automatic pilot. One morning several years ago I got a call from the Ligonier police. Seems I had gassed up at Quick Gs and left the scene without paying. As soon as he said that I realized HE WAS RIGHT! I was in a hurry for a closing, pulled up, quickly gassed up and left. Truly, I was on automatic pilot. When I walked down to pay and apologize I got the looks like, "yea, right, lady."

For anyone else who has put the plates in the garbage and the books in the fridge, I think you understand.

Yoi. Double yoi.

Good morning, you black and gold Ligonier chapter of the Steeler Nation!

Did you get a subprime mortgage from Countrywide?

If yes, you may be eligible to participate in a settlement just announced by the Pennsylvania Attorney General.

“Thanks to this agreement, Pennsylvania homeowners will now receive direct relief that will make a real difference, helping consumers caught in the subprime lending crisis,” Corbett said. More than 10,000 Pennsylvania homeowners may be eligible for loan modification, relocation assistance and mortgage foreclosure relief as part of the negotiated settlement, according to Corbett’s office.

Assuming every eligible borrower participates, this loan modification program will provide more than $150 million in savings to Pennsylvania borrowers.

Ah, I was delayed this morning, so Ginko decided to start breakfast without me.

Mind you, he has food in his bowl, but he likes FRESH food for breakfast.

I walked into my office and he looked up while munching and gave me the "yea, well ya know I just couldn't wait any longer" eyes. Gotta love him.

I nominate

Jane at the tavern to be the official mellow mike waitress!!! I know Jane from high school and she is so bubbly and delightful. I loved her energy last night and her look:) She is very musical herself! I think she hid it well last night. I hope we can con her into singing something! :)

Wouldn't it be great?

To have the local restaurant specials for each day put up on here?! :) Just a thought. I wish they'd get on board with us.

What type of Ass are you? I mean Donkey geeez what'd you think I meant?!

Are you a Badass? How about a Badass Driver (golfer) or a My Ass Loves Fresh Powder (skier) or Badass Hunter.....the list of asses goes on. Stop in to Equine Chic to buy your favorite Ass Tee Shirt. They have been one of our top selling products. Makes a great gift or something for you to wear. Sure to get a chuckle or smile. Jack is the donkey shown on every tee shirt. :)

Beware when you are buying on Amazon or Ebay

We just had the experience of having a BAD seller on Amazon. I know to check their rating and feedback but mum was a lil new at this. Anyway DO NOT BUY FROM Moonlitte Sales.....if you google you can even read some other posts about them. People have not received items, had emails returned, but have been CHARGED for the item they wanted. We ordered a Wii game and Wii Speak and have received NEITHER and ordered at the end Nov./Beginning of Dec. and thought we'd have it before Christmas. NOPE nothing nada zip.....we emailed several times and have received no response. We filed a complaint and addressed the issue to Amazon. Let's hope and pray we are refunded. Yes this is partly the fault for not looking at the rating but you have to click somewhere to find it, you should be able to order pay and receive your product. Thank goodness it was on a credit card and the paper trail is there. It makes me so upset that there are POOPY people out there taking advantage of others. Do your homework on who you are buying from. Whatever you do do not buy from someone with numerous bad feedback. I hope this seller gets whats coming to them. Karma baby.

Guess who uses EBOOST? besides me and anyone I have try it

Oprah, Lance Armstrong, Victoria Beckham, Heidi Klum, and MANY more!

What is EBOOST?
It is a daily health booster that you mix in with some water and it becomes a orange-flavored drink (similar to Tang, only I think this is better).

All natural ingredients such as a blend of vitamins and minerals that help to activate the four vital elements of performance: ENERGY, IMMUNITY, RECOVERY, and FOCUS.

Key ingredients of EBOOST are Vitamin C, B6, B12, Zinc, Green Tea Extract, Potassium, and many more.

Once you try it you'll see why you feel more energetic and stay healthy. We have a joke amongst my friends that if one of us is sniffling or complaining of feeling sick we say, "have you been boosting?" It's a tell-tale sign that if you are getting sick you haven't been taking it. No jitters, no side-effects, just energy and health! I love coffee, I love tea, but what I prefer is EBOOST for me.

Get yours at Equine Chic - on the diamond across the street from Michael's Jewelers

I love Ligonier....GO STEELERS!

Proclamation

Whereas, The Pittsburgh Steelers have shown their determination to be the best football team in their division by winning the AFC North title Sunday, January 18th, 2009 right here in Pittsburgh at Heinz Field. Defeating the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 23 to 14, has set the stage for the Black and Gold to advance to Super Bowl XLIII, to play the Arizona Cardinals for the title of Super Bowl Champions on February 1, 2009 in Tampa, Florida.

Whereas, The Steeler defense is ranked first in the League. The offense has scored touchdowns with authority all season long. This team spirit has led the Steelers to the ultimate destination of the Super Bowl XLIII. Coach Tomlin has shown us what goals can be accomplished through team effort and hard work. All the players and entire coaching staff deserve our congratulations for reaching this goal that few teams achieve.

Now, therefore, I, Ormond K. Bellas, Mayor of the Borough of Ligonier do hereby proudly proclaim Friday, January 30th,2009 as Black and Gold day in Ligonier and call on all citizens to proudly display the Black and Gold colors this Super Bowl Weekend and celebrate our Pittsburgh Steelers achievement on being the best football team in America.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I do hereby

set my hand and cause the

Corporate Seal of the Borough of Ligonier

to be affixed this twenty-seventh day of January, 2009.

Liggys magical mystery post- I think we all knew the last one!

Here ya go, take a guess, another place I love to drive by. Can you tell I took the last two in my car on a snowy day! I'm sure other cars were wondering :-p This reminds me of a house you'd put in a scene at Christmas, like a mini house for your mini town.

Hey, hurry up, put on your Steeler stuff and get over to Abigails!

Mayor Butch is making an official proclamation at 10:00 today.

Look out, Butch, he's on the way! LOL

RE: Who is Pete ??

Well, my mind must have been somewhere else when I called Joe by his new AKA, "Pete".
Sorry about the confusion. Diane has one guy in her life and that is Joe. Must have fried too many brain cells over the years, I guess.

Hi gang,
I am presenting a Mayor's Proclamation for this Steeler Friday to Pete and Dianne Stewart at Abigail's Coffee Shop tomorrow at 10 AM after Deb takes a picture for the Echo. Dianne assured me today that everyone will be "dressed" in the appropriate garb tomorrow. I will be.
