SAVE THE ARTS IN PA RALLY

July 14, 2009
11 AM
Main Capitol Rotunda
Harrisburg, PA

This rally will be the most tangible and important show of how important arts funding is to the citizens of Pennsylvania. We need to fill the Main Capitol Rotunda with people who want to keep our downtowns alive with vibrant arts organizations, keep arts jobs in Pennsylvania , and provide access to arts programming to our Seniors and our children. If the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) grants to arts organizations is reduced or eliminated from the final budget for this fiscal year, millions of Pennsylvanians are going to be impacted by this act.

Please join us for the rally on July 14th. Encourage your friends, family members and business associates to join you. Make a plan to drive yourself and three friends and recruit a second carload of arts advocates to join you in Harrisburg to support the continuation of arts grants through the PCA. You can register for the rally by visiting our online registration form at

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=vKTbhEEM58Xkrwde_2bFQvLw_3d_3d.

After the rally, we encourage you to schedule appointments with your legislators to tell them how important state arts funding is to you as their constituent. If you need contact information for your legislators you can visit our Legislative Action Center at http://www.capwiz.com/artsusa/pa and type in your zipcode at the box in the top righthand corner or you can contact Jenny Hershour at jlh@citizensfortheartsinpa.org.

Groups in both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh have arranged to have bus transportation to and from the rally. If you are interested in joining one of these groups, please RSVP at:

Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance Bus Trip

Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council Bus Trip

Availability is on a first come first serve basis.

If you have any questions, please contact Jenny Hershour at jlh@citizensfortheartsinpa.org or at 717-234-0959. I look forward to seeing you and your collegues at the Save the Arts in PA Rally on July 14th.

Sincerely,

Jenny

Wouldn't it be better to just go out and buy art? If you are driving to the capitol from Pittsburgh that is a 4 hour drive roughly. Driving back is another four hours. If you spend 4 hours there that is 12 hours total.

If you made $10 an hour doing something else you could use your $120 to buy some art or get together with some other people doing the same thing and buy some bigger art or sponsor an artist.

That would be a much more tangible way of supporting the arts.
