Rhodes receives Bronze Star...after a very long time

LIGONIER, Pa., July 15 (UPI) -- A World War II veteran from Pennsylvania finally received a Bronze Star Medal after nearly 70 years, officials said.

Harry Wayne Rhodes, of Ligonier, wounded in 1944 while serving in Italy in World War II, for which he received a Purple Heart, but never the Bronze Star, which he also earned, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.

On Sunday, Rhodes finally received his Bronze Star Medal, which is awarded members of the Armed Forces for acts of heroism, acts of merit or meritorious service in a combat zone, during a ceremony at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Ligonier.
