cherry lime rickey makes for a sticky clean up following truck accident

A truck driver was flown to an area hospital Tuesday evening after his rig rolled over, spilling its load of sticky syrup at a tight curve on Route 30 in Ligonier Township.

The wreck, a few miles east of Laughlintown on Laurel Mountain near the Mountain Inn curve, closed the highway in both directions.

Initial reports indicated that emergency personnel were working frantically to free the tractor-trailer driver who was trapped. The driver was alone and was flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. Officials did not immediately release the driver's name.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The truck was hauling “cherry lime rickey,” a cherry syrup, to Latrobe. However, officials would not identify the exact destination.
