In consideration of the YMCA matter, I wanted to know if there are parking permits available in Ligonier Borough?

I just called the borough office and found that, yes, there are 4 to 6 parking permits available in the South Market Street lot.  These permits run either $20 or $25 per month.

For the heck of it, I went to Google Maps and ran directions from Fort Ligonier to the YMCA.  Google says the walk is roughly 7 minutes and it goes over a distance of 0.3 miles.  Keep in mind that the South Market Street lot is not quite as far from the YMCA as Fort Ligonier.

So, without asking for a specific confirm, we know that there are at least 4 permits that might cost $25 per month. That's $1200.00 per year to cover the parking needs of 4 YMCA employees who are not already able to park on the existing YMCA land behind their building.

While I would argue that YMCA employees should pay for their own parking, I would also argue that if the YMCA feels the need to pay for employee parking, as a concerned owner of a for-profit business in Ligonier Borough, I question the motives of a non-profit charity spending money to create luxury parking over the objections of neighbors and borough officials.  I also question the motives of a non-profit charity who threatens to spend big bucks going to court to force their luxury parking upon those who object.

I also have to chuckle over the 7 minute walk.  Spending big bucks building a squash court and medical facility to advocate a healthy lifestyle while refusing to walk 0.3 miles is kind of hilarious isn't it?
