bee business

When Roberta Jones heard about colony collapse — the rapid and dangerous disappearance of honeybees — she couldn't ignore it.
So the Murrysville woman enlisted the help of her brother Jody Eberhart, and the two founded Laurel Mountain Bees. Their all-natural honey has earned numerous accolades at the Pennsylvania Farm Show during the past five years, including at this year's show.
Eberhart, 47, cares for 10 hives at his Ligonier Township farm. Jones, 55, tends to three hives in Murrysville.
“I read that bees were dying at an astronomical rate,” she said. “I thought maybe I can get into bees, so we'll have pollinators.”
