quick DIY cold frame garden

Well, this is what happens when the weather gets promising and you have some strawbales saved from last year for the coming season: In less than two hours, 4 strawbales, a few (salvaged from neighbors' cast-off) planters, some seed packets (traded at a seed swap) and some old storm windows became a cold frame garden right outside our kitchen door. I put in kale, arugula, rainbow chard, and some salad greens, all to be harvested young, as baby greens.

Once the weather really warms and the plexiglas pieces come off the chicken coop, I will put them in place of the heavy storm windows; but in the meantime, those yummy greens can get going for April salads.
