Menopause is a natural part of a woman’s life. It can occur between the ages of 45 and 55 but usually occurs around the age of 51, when the ovaries stop producing eggs and estrogen levels decline.
Traditional Chinese Medicine sees menopause as a deep energy shift that extends beyond physical changes. It’s a natural and normal part of a woman’s life, yet it has the power to affect her mind, emotions and spirit.
Kidney energy deficiency is one root cause of menopausal issues. Kidney energy powers many functions of the body.
Another organ which has a very important impact upon menopause is the liver. The liver meridian runs through the reproductive area, so when liver Qi is stagnant or weak, this area will be affected. The liver also regulates the smooth flow of blood and emotions.
The menopause transition is not just a simple biological event, but a long and ongoing process involving almost every part of the body.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine experience, most menopause symptoms belong to functional disorders as a result of disrupted hormonal balance. Since the whole body is undergoing changes and many influential factors are involved, a wide array of symptoms can appear, and frequency and intensity vary greatly.
In the acupressure class, learn to stimulate your own pressure points to open blockages and restore energy flow to reduce menopausal symptoms. In the cooking class, learn to prepare foods that will facilitate relief from the symptoms.
